The release of Apple's Vision Pro in the U.S. has introduced a new layer of interaction with mixed reality, requiring users to set up passwords for device access. However, forgetting this password means that users are faced with a mandatory trip to an Apple Store for a device reset. This policy was confirmed following the device's availability in Apple retail locations from February 2nd.
Unlike the relatively straightforward reset options available for other Apple devices like the iPhone and Apple Watch, the Vision Pro employs Optic ID for authentication, primarily using the user's eyes. Nonetheless, there are instances, such as after a restart, when the device may prompt the user for their password.
The Vision Pro's reliance on Optic ID for most authentication processes adds a layer of security but also complicates the reset process in cases where the password is forgotten. According to reports, if the password is entered incorrectly too many times, the Vision Pro will lock, necessitating a reset that can only be performed by Apple personnel.
This strict security measure mirrors Apple's commitment to user privacy and data protection but also emphasizes the importance of remembering one's password or facing the inconvenience of device deactivation and the need for in-store support for reactivation.
